Modern Warfare

bleep, blip, bloop

Modern Warfare

Angels of death criss-cross the night,

mere blips on a screen.

We huddle around our consoles

watching, sipping our coffee.

*

Someone else pushes the buttons

in our multi-player video game.

They sit in a room much like ours,

dimly lit with lots of flashing lights.

*

It’s mostly quiet, except for the humming

and whirring of computers and machines.

There’s usually no reason to think

about the fact that someone dies

*

every time one of those blips disappears

from the screen that I sit watching,

wondering,

how long until my next smoke break?

Your writing is excellent. I must say, I was thoroughly impressed.

I do wonder if these games influence thoughts of murders😌

Yep, that’s the way it is. Well rendered and tragic.

Oh wow this hits hard. A subtle comparison for such a destructive force, yet, isn’t the layman’s equivalent just as harmful? Your emotional depth in this piece is very well rendered. 👏👏👏
