Mixed Medium Project - Something Cold
Day 2 of a 30 Day Art and Poetry Challenge

The Summer of Snowflakes
Snowflakes in summer
Unexpectedly perfect
Acceptably strange.
Come forth from sorrow
leave bitter isolation
The surprise is here.
We played in the snow
Our laughter echoing out
Across the expanse.
The snowflakes danced in
our smiles and in our hair.
Our faces turned up.
Snow stuck to the ground.
It sparkled in our lashes
bringing us such joy.
Sweet yellow sun shone
brightly against the white flakes
glitter floating down.
Our childhood drifted
on singsong breezes as we
swapped natural seasons.
When it went away
We were left confused and sad
As though from a dream.
When will our summer
Snow return to us and bring
Winter dreams again?
Creator's note: Ahh, a peaceful snowman juxtaposed to a strange Summer day in long-form haiku. Feels just strange enough, perhaps? Hopefully our exceptionally strange 2020 will not bring Summer snow shower. Although, I honestly won't mind Fall once it's here.
P.S. Also, I realize I dub it long form haiku, but I just string several syllabically haiku style stanzas together. I'm not sure there is a name for that. There should be, because it's a very fun format to write poetry in.
