The rain falls, the wind blows, gone the season's warmth
Make way for the cold icy winter snow
My tears fall like rain. you’re only gone for a while
I miss you darling, and our children feel our pain
You've gone to find work in the coal mines up North
Saying it’s the only way we will survive these hard times
Each day I look after our children, my mind is one you
I can’t cope with being away, yet what can we do
This is not it’s not for the best
It's putting everything about us to the test
I know you’ve only been away a short while
I see your face every day in our children smiles
sometimes I think I will go insane
you’re always on my mind you’re, inside my brain
I’m missing you more than words can say
wondering how you’re spending your day
Underground you’re working the coal dirty and dark
I sit here crying for you with our children in the park
missing you my life is empty and sad
When you come home, that’s when I’ll be glad
Keep safe my darling until we meet again
Till then my tears for you will fall like rain
The children are too young to miss you there only small
I fear when you come home they won't know you at all
I get your money every week it arrives here on time
Please come home, there must be other work than the mines
Selfish I know wanting you here to return, I fear for you're safety
I know your only gone away to earn, so we can survive but dear
Inside it feels like you will never return to our home
Each day away from us the North is Your home

I've been writing poetry since the age of fourteen. With pen in hand, I wander through realms unseen. The pen holds power; ink reveals hidden thoughts. A poet may speak truth or weave a tale. You decide. Let pen and ink capture your mind❤️
