For Mikeydred’s Octoberon Challenge

Some hypocrisy is essential to civilized living, as a friend of mine used to say, but can cut like a dagger when left unchecked.

It is also fearful, as personified in this poem. May the wounds that it causes heal.

πŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺž

You wear a smile, but secrets guide your ways,

Mask of compassion hides your true intent.

With pretty words you hide with what you say,

But poison flows from acts you represent.

πŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺž

Flower so bright, with thorns that jab unseen,

You claim the light, but darkness flows behind.

You point to virtue’s path, so clear, serene,

Yet walk a secret road, with falsehoods bind.

πŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺž

Within the glass, your shadow starts to rise,

The mask you don begins to slip and fall.

The truth you cover stirs beneath a guiseβ€”

And lies you’ve spoken now appall.

πŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺžπŸͺž

The mirror shows the falsehoods you conceal,

Old doubts, once dark, now shine on, and will heal.
