Mine Own Darkness

A Respite.

Do you seek in me a respite, from those demons in your mind?

Do you witness mine own darkness

And pray to blend those shades in kind?

Am I the fool who's wandered

Down a path that leads to naught

A rabbit in the underbrush

Wandering till it is caught

Be fool who sees the white glint

And dreams of a fur coat

Lest you find a blinding silver

To be pressed against thy throat

For when the darkness calls out

It doesn't seek the light

It cares little for the distance stars

But craves the depths of night

I too have woken hungry

For a feast I cannot find

But I've made a home of midnight

And I do not hunger blind

So I may join you in your searching

For a place to lay your head

And may we one day find it

Or find such comforts when we're dead
