Mind Blown

An Ekphrastic Sonnet

By D. J. ReddallPublished about a year ago 1 min read
Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin, "Soap Bubbles," 1733-1734

What is more fragile and ephemeral?

Lungs laugh lithe little worlds into light life

Hollow and shining, fleeting, temporal

Preserved by painting from bursting and strife

Representation by means of brush strokes

Makes what is most mortal last for all time

Frivolous folly and play it evokes

While displaying power strange and sublime

Imagination’s shifting dimensions

Elastic, transparent, soap bubble pure

Anything could live in these clear mansions

For entropy they supply a sweet cure

Centuries hence, eyes will see this bubble

It will abide, while we become rubble

Ekphrastic

I mean, you take a painting of a bubble and turn it into this? Masterful.
