Mighty Acorn

The exhortation 'count your blessings' isn't one that we'd like to hear when we're in the middle of painful hardship or loss. We know that we should have an attitude of gratitude, but that doesn't resonate with us when life throws curve balls.

Finding hidden blessings in moments of trial is a tall order. The gravity of the situation often overwhelms, as does the need to set matters straight as fast as possible.

It's hard to believe that a teensy nut like this can be a treasure trove of blessings, though. What does it take to see the hidden graces it bears?

Practicing gratitude for the little blessings involves being thankful for everything, no matter how small. Finding silver linings requires open mindedness, which can be hard to come by when things don't go our way. But the little acorn can bear lessons if we are mindful enough to spot them, and the finding process does cultivate the resilience that we need to handle obstacles.
