Mid-Summer in the City

Her first steps away from home

She left behind a quiet village,

lanes of quiet, skies so wide.

Now towers rise where stars once shone,

and crowded streets press on each side.

The subway growls, the taxis cry,

a thousand footsteps rushing by.

The days unfold in dizzy streams,

so far removed from simple dreams.

Yet summer lends a tender hand,

the park becomes a softer land.

The branches bow, the breezes sing,

a saxophone makes evenings ring.

She wanders paths both wide and long,

half-uncertain she belongs.

But somewhere in the city’s glow,

she feels a place she’ll come to know.

The road ahead is veiled, unclear,

with whispers more than maps to steer.

Still forward pulls with steady light,

through endless streets, through sleepless night.

Perhaps she’ll learn the city’s song,

perhaps she’ll find where she belongs.

For now she walks, her spirit free,

between the world and what will be.
