Meteoric

A Breakup Poem

By Andrew C McDonaldPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

Our world was indestructible.

I rested secure in the knowledge

That we could survive anything;

Together … forever…

Spinning around the sun daily

Happily frolicking

Hand in hand …

If I was the world,

You were the moon;

Illuminating my darkness,

Controlling the tides of emotion,

Ensuring the balance.

Then a meteor struck

It came from the uncharted depths

Of space:

A celestial traveler

Colliding with our little world..

Smashing into the ocean of our love.

Tidal waves crashed over our shores

Drowning our perfect world

In a sea of uncertainty.

When she struck

It was out of the blue.

Our very world…

Exploded…

The air thickened

Our atmosphere, once sustaining,

Became clogged with confusion

I couldn’t breathe .

Maybe it was inevitable.

Now I find that to survive

I must go.

The center has shifted,

Become unbalanced.

I’m sorry…

Our love was the dinosaurs,

She the meteor.

***************************

For anyone who felt secure in the bubble of contented love only to have their world shattered when someone crashed it. Unlike the dinosaurs - survive. Rise. Rebuild.

heartbreak
