Message in The Wind

Talking Trees

Message in The Wind

Last evening, I stood watching,

As the trees swayed back and forth talking.

In the late hours, they were swinging and swaying,

But I couldn’t hear what they were saying.

It was as if the conversation meant something,

Far more important than what I was understanding.

It wasn’t the first time I’d listened with curiosity,

Trying to hear the words spoken in such simplicity.

First one then another stood straighter than before.

As a lull in the conversation touched their core.

Their brilliant green leaves began to twist and wiggle,

As the messenger’s story made all of them giggle.

Then, finally, I came to understand the meaning,

Of this passing, this greeting, their tree trunks bending.

The passage was not only for me to see but also to hear,

The wind carrying voices echoing love of those I hold dear.

So I stood in the evening’s dim light captivated,

Listening to the words, the message being related.

Be of good cheer for unto you it has been given,

This message of reassurance for those forgiven.

At that moment I understood what I‘d heard,

The words, the singing, the bowing weren’t absurd.

The trees and the wind were only a part of the story,

But willingly surrendered the messages sent from glory.

In silence and alone I stood taking it in,

As the approaching darkness seemed far less threatening.

The wind wrapped around me as never before,

And as the trees had told me, it showed me so much more.

Then, as quickly as it had begun, the wind moved along,

To the next tree, the next person, until it was gone.

With the message delivered one of grace and mercy,

There was nothing more to tell me at this time in my journey.
