Memories that haunt us

You may wish to forget them or plead to erase them, but they come back.

My eyes refuse to close

In case I see them again.

I have these memories that haunt me,

Taunt me, inflict me with indescribable pain.

I know they are things of the past.

They won't define me today,

But when they do come to haunt me,

they bring with them my shame.

I've never believed in ghosts,

Till the ones in my mind come to life.

They keep taunting my existence,

As they visit me every night.

My memories are filled with remembrance,

Of broken promises and incomplete dreams.

They call to me in a broken voice,

Unraveling my soul at its seams.
