Memories of Then

Echos of Africa

Hibiscus blooming, spilling fire across fertile, ochre earth

Sun blazing, relentless, darkening skin, burning softness until it echos the earth

Pulp of mango on my tongue, sweet and fibrous, its juice never enough

Cicadas rasping their endless chorus, an ancient pulse that echoes in my dreams

The heady musk of tropic air thickens, an old scent woven through the humid night air.
