Memories from the Past

Poetry by Jessica Karris

By Jessica KarrisPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
Myself (Jessica) and my mom

It seems like only yesterday that you were here;

When I couldn’t have a care,

Or even a fear.

You brought me into this world,

Helpless and small;

And raised me like you,

Which isn’t bad at all.

Our life was perfect, or was it not;

Did you know I loved you;

Could you have ever forgot?

You only got to see me as a kid,

And it’s no one’s fault;

You can’t see me functioning,

As a grown adult.

It wasn’t enough time,

To let you know I care;

About the time with you,

I always loved to share.

When we’d go shopping or just shared a piece of toast;

That’s when I,

Loved you the most.

You went somewhere better than here;

And our memories together I’ll hold dear.

You are now lost,

And I am too;

How do I get along,

When I need you?

Distance makes the heart grow stronger,

As the days seem to go on longer.

I’ll get along as best I can;

But remember your daughter,

She’ll always be your number one fan!
