Memoirs Of An Invisible Man

Poetry about being seen.

Am I invisible, lost in the crowd,

A lonely soul with a heart, crying out loud.

Why does nobody see me, or know my pain,

Just a ghost in the shadows, going insane.

Invisible, a shadow in the night,

Forgotten like dreams, out of reach and out of mind.

Can you not hear me, or remember my name,

Like the whisper of a fastball, lost in the game.

To reach out, to touch someone's heart,

But I'm invisible, so they don't know where to start.

Just a stranger and faceless in a crowd,

My solitary soul screams for you, screams out loud.

To have a connection, for someone to see me,

The person I am, the person I long to be.

But I remain lost in the darkness, forgotten and alone,

A soul in the shadows and nowhere to call home.

I cry out for help but it's never heard,

I'm barely a memory, more a dream that's deferred.

Not one knows this pain, the daily fear that I feel,

While I wander in the darkness, searching for what's real.

So if you see me, if you hear my plea,

Please reach out your hand, please rescue me.

I'm just an invisible man, lost in the crowd,

And my lonely soul cries out loud.

Two songs come to mind: Marilyn Monroe's finale in the musical "Bombshell" & Lori Lieberman-Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly". How do you know me so well? A good portion of my own writings have to do with what it's like to evanesce, to mean little & become nothing. Your poetry disarms us with its charm while laying bare your heart. Nicely written.
