The blessing on our skin
Protects us from the sun’s harmful rays,
But not from those who lack the blessing
And their hateful gaze.
Jealous and feeling overlooked by the one that they praise.
They captured us and taught us to hate our ways.
Our way of being comfortable in our skin
To hate the blessing that God sent.
Washing away our history
And filling out heads with only what they wanted us to be.
Lesser than,
Lesser than those born without our gift.
They are superior
That’s what they want us to think.
They want to turn our blessing into a curse
Making us think
Our skin only made things worse.
But we all know the truth
That black is beautiful
And we set the latest trends.
We define the beauty standard
And become the newest trendsetters.
For our skin is magical
And they all wish they could have it
The one thing they lack
Our wonderful blessing
Our melanin!
