Medusa

Plight of the gorgon

By Mark Stigers Published about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

Medusa

In Athena’s sacred temple,

Poseidon seduced me a priestess.

The goddess’s revenge was quite simple:

make me a creature all would detest.

I was made a Gorgon crone,

with snakes for my hair.

You would turn into stone

if at me you’d stare.

Sarpedon, at the world’s edge,

was the island on which I live.

Beware of my solemn pledge-

My head I will not just give.

Many have come for me,

thinking I’d be an easy mark.

Now stone statues they all be

for playing a foolish part.

For you I am waiting;

Stone I will turn you into.

My head is here for the taking-

the choice is up to you.
