Meant For Me

Sometimes the losing is the leading.

By Marcus HillPublished 2 months ago 1 min read

I’ve learned the hardest lessons

from the things I reached for

that were never mine.

The almosts.

The nearlys.

The could’ve-beens

that softened their “no”

just enough to keep me hoping.

I used to take it personal—

the distance,

the silence,

the way some hearts

only met me halfway.

But pain has a strange way

of telling the truth

before you’re ready to hear it.

And mine kept whispering:

what leaves you

was never meant

to stay.

Now I understand—

some connections teach you longing,

so you’ll recognize fullness

when it finally arrives.

Some losses shape your hands

for the blessing

that won’t slip through them.

And maybe this ache—

this quiet, familiar ache—

isn’t punishment,

but preparation.

Maybe everything

that didn’t choose me

was guiding me

toward what will.
