An ode to men’s mental health

I am a man. Why does my mental health weigh less than none.

Fighting for control of my mind. The work is never done.

I’m taught it’s in my DNA to always be a stoic.

I’m suffering in silence and nobody even knows it.

My anxiety is high. Very high up in the sky. Where the birds fly.

There’s a smile on my face but inside I wanna die.

I’m good at acting as if there’s nothing to that can phase me.

But it really is an act, I’m out of whack and going crazy.

I desperately need something for my mind that can fix my health.

Awareness is a must. Please don’t disregard my MENtal Health.

This is a very important message! Men are often forgotten when it comes to mental health.

So true that men are "supposed to be the strong ones." Well written and to the point!

  • Such a powerful piece, Joe. Thank you for voicing what so many feel but struggle to express. If you’d like, I’d be honored if you took a look at some of my recent work as well — always appreciate connecting with thoughtful writers.
