Maybe Not This One

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 9 days ago 2 min read

Verse 1

If at first you don’t succeed,

It might be time to pause and take the lead

From that quiet voice inside you saying,

“Hey… maybe not this deed.”

Some dreams are worth the climbing,

Some are better left alone—

Like trying to fix the roof yourself

When you fear heights to the bone.

Chorus

’Cause some goals lift you higher,

And some goals burn you out.

Some things you can grow into,

And some you’re better off without.

Wisdom isn’t giving up—

It’s knowing what fits true.

So if your heart says, “Maybe not,”

It’s okay to listen too.

Verse 2

If you tried to run a marathon

But fainted at mile three,

It doesn’t mean you’re weak—

It means your body disagrees.

If you bought a fancy toolkit

Thinking carpentry was fate,

But the bookshelf leans like Pisa—

It’s alright to recalibrate.

Chorus

’Cause some goals lift you higher,

And some goals burn you out.

Some things you can grow into,

And some you’re better off without.

Wisdom isn’t giving up—

It’s knowing what fits true.

So if your heart says, “Maybe not,”

It’s okay to listen too.

Bridge

There’s courage in the trying,

And courage in the choice

To say, “This path is not my own,”

And trust your inner voice.

Not every dream is meant for you,

Not every mountain’s yours—

But the ones that are will open

Like familiar, welcome doors.

Verse 3

If you thought you’d take up dancing

But your feet refuse to glide,

Or you tried to learn the cello

And your cat ran off to hide—

It’s fine to change direction,

To shift the dream a bit.

Life’s not about perfection—

It’s about what truly fits.

Final Chorus

’Cause some goals lift you higher,

And some goals burn you out.

Some things you can grow into,

And some you’re better off without.

Wisdom isn’t giving up—

It’s knowing what fits true.

So if your heart says, “Maybe not,”

It’s okay to listen too.

Outro

So try the things worth trying,

Let the others drift away—

And remember: not every dream

Is meant to make you stay.
