May It Burn With You
A poem, for Tina

Driving
Lengthen the road
and burn the forest—
every little sapling,
tree, and shrub.
Burn down the houses on the way,
with everything
that offers itself as an obstacle.
But here we are:
mute,
deaf,—
dread obscuring
the natural sequence
of reality.

Parthenope
How can I hold
something so big,
uncontainable—
something so big
not even the most proud
and courageous of us
could hold, or control?
Parthenope:
of blue and black,
octopus-shaped and stretched,
always hot and never burning…
Could you hold a home,
and our burning forests?
Wipe away the March rain
like dust on wind?
Rocked,
I collect my offerings—
for may the world
burn with you.

(I love you)
I love you.
