May I Tell You?

I want to tell you about my day today I want to say I’m sad, I’m mad, I’m broken Into thousands of shards of glass Because this life feels too large and unmanageable to Understand why I want to tell you about my day today.

I want to tell you that my chest feels empty A great gaping hole where Once upon a time, I danced badly and laughed loudly Now it’s vacant.

Instead, I try to make you smile. Wild stories of adventure and Self-deprecating woe. I am loud and unabashed—that is my mask.

But really, I want to say to you the words I cannot speak They reek of desperation The narration is all wrong. Gone are the moments I could say,

I want to tell you about my day today.

Sending you big hugs, Lindsay. Take all the time you need. It's OK to ditch the mask if it gets suffocating. 🫂
