This may be the last time I watch the sun break dawn,
All too often I nod my head move on,
I comply to the costumes I wear
Dancing my confidence away, I follow the masquerade
Abiding to the movements of my gown,
My eyes shrouded in the shadows of a mask
Safety found in a false identity,
So many paper faces on parade
Hide your face, in every shape, in every shade
It’s a masquerade, turn around and see another’s peering eyes
Breathing is harder with every breath
My chest constricts, and this cuirass has sewed me in,
From all the emotions I bottle inside
Hiding my scars, I wear a thousand lies
Concealing every blemish,
I have a secret confession
My superpower is invisibility,
I don’t dare show my face,
I’m just another body in the masses
Burdened with this celestial curse.
All I express, is a small smile
With a small wave, I bow out
Letting another costume take my place
As I attempt to evade your inquiries
Yet suffocating beneath this mask
I was called beautiful
But it's just the sequins on my gown
They said I was bold
But it's just the feathers all around
They encouraged me to dance more and more
But honestly I quit trying and it's just these shoes that keep me moving on polished marbled floors
Look in my eyes, where my soul slowly dies,
My reality is nothing more than insanity,
So I'll hide away in my fantasy, behind this mask
Welcome to my life, welcome to the lies
Welcome to my masquerade,
Who can name the face?
