🎭 Masks of the Modern Mind 🎭

The Masquerade

By Karl JacksonPublished 10 months ago 1 min read

In cities where the billboards shine,

And filters frame the perfect line,

They walk in crowds yet feel alone—

A thousand hearts, all turned to stone.

📱 Scroll, smile, repeat— the same old show,

Performing roles they’ll never know.

Their truth is buried deep beneath,

A silken lie in every sheath.

They dress for likes, not for the soul,

Trade dreams away to chase control.

The mirror weeps for who they were

Before the noise began to blur.

💼 Behind a desk, behind a screen,

They chase a life they've never seen.

Authenticity—what price it pays,

To walk a path that's not a maze.

They speak in jargon, soft and neat,

Avoid the truth, accept defeat.

Their laughter echoes—plastic, thin,

A hollow tune that hides within.

👗 Wearing masks to hide the cracks,

Polished smiles and well-worn acts.

But eyes don't lie, they often scream,

Of quiet lives and strangled dreams.

They pose in curated delight,

While inner shadows steal the night.

“Be real,” the soul begins to cry,

But fear replies, "You might not fly."

🌿 Oh, what beauty truth can hold,

Far richer than the lies we're sold.

A face that's flawed but fully known

Is stronger than a heart of stone.

So dare to speak, dare to be seen,

Dare to be messy, raw, unclean.

This life’s too short to play pretend—

Be your own story—not the trend.

💔 Because those who trade the truth for peace,

Will find that joy begins to cease.

And all that’s left in the disguise

Is someone lost behind their eyes.

If you’re reading this and it feels like a mirror,

Take off the mask and step a bit nearer.

The world needs you, not the version they say—

So start living real, today is the day. ✨
