We gather each season, traditions held dear,
With laughter and stories, good food, and good cheer.
Yet under the sparkle, a tension can rise,
As politics linger behind gentle eyes.
A smile is a mask that we quietly wear,
To soften the edges of views we don’t share.
We must walk on a tightrope, which is both cautious and kind,
Protecting the bonds through the years intertwine.
For love is far stronger than battles of the mind,
Peace is a treasure that is not easy to find.
So breathe when the tempers begin to ignite,
Let patience and humor help soften the night.
Change topics to memories, music, or song,
Where harmony dwells and all hearts can belong.
Choose kindness as armor, let grudges take flight,
No gatherings should be allowed to darken the light.
In this season of giving, hold fast to this part:
The greatest treasure is a wide-open heart.

This is such a heartfelt piece. 💛 I love how you’ve captured both the joy and the hidden tensions that come with family gatherings. I’ve had a lot of family visiting lately, so I can relate!
