Masks

For Masks We Wear Challenge

By Andrew C McDonaldPublished 4 months ago 1 min read

Every0ne has a secret

Something they never tell …

Some are big, most are small

Some are straight from hell…

Secrets we push to the empty back

Hidden behind a mental door…

Where no one else is allowed access

Just a single foot path on illusory floor…

Something we lock away, try to forget

Then we don a mask of purity…

Show to the world outside

Our false illusion of serene surety…

This mask of innocence allows us to function

To go about our daily life

Seldom peeking behind the curtain

Which revealed could only cause strife…

Most masks hide minor transgressions

Which truly aren’t as big as they seem…

Others cover a soul of pure evil

Which if shown would cause others to scream…

Our masks allow us anonymity

Hiding one’s truth from light of day

If you lifted your own mask

What would the world have to say?
