Mask the Pain

A short poem about laughter.

By Rika LekayPublished 4 years ago 1 min read
Not mine, but it's fan art for a game (artist unknown, prefers to stay anon)

***

Yes, please, make me laugh,

Harder than I've ever laughed before.

Put it on my epitaph,

At the very least, that's not a sight worthy of a bore.

***

Put me under a squealing spell,

That's quite an uncontrollable trance.

Take me out of this hell,

Perhaps, even take me to a dance?

***

Some days, I feel like Pearl,

You know, the little girl from The Scarlet Letter?

Our laughs are quite equal,

I've only read this piece when I was a student, but I distinctly remember a laughter blur.

***

'Don't make me laugh!' I scream,

Because it hurts my stomach.

Don't wake me up from this sweet little dream,

By going on a wild frenzy to wreak havoc.
