Have you ever seen the face of a star?
Wreathed in luminous robes of hubris
Flames encircle her like brushstrokes
Legends locked in her Grimoire
Within a phosphor globe contrast
Potential hidden in her heart
When death arrives for her at last
The world quakes and comes apart
Bright flames give way to umber dark
Confidence to nihilism
To those left standing she imparts
Not a single drop of wisdom
If you suppose before the end
She wore a mask to hide her face
You’ll find it hard to comprehend
Her warmth is gone without a trace.
Embrace the gift of warmth and light
Ere time gives way to cold and night
About the Creator
Thomas Speer
I'm a God-fearing tumbleweed of a man, a gentle husband, loving foster parent, screwed up past and amazingly ordained future serving the Lord and expressing his revelation in my writing. Don't expect the dry and sanctimonious, though.

I love this poem. Cosmology is both near and far. Near in the sense, we think we grasp it, far in the sense, we know few have the ability to grasp it. This poem made me feel both. I also walked away from the reading wondering, is this about social stardom? Is it about personal, human desire to be seen? In the end I am not sure who or what the subject was to the writer and that may be why I enjoyed it so much. Great poem. Keep turning them out.
