There's a beauty to be had
in aging
Shimmering strands
of grey twinkle in
the light as I dance
in my kitchen
as my old dog looks on
and wonders why I do it
I grew up in a strict house
there was no dancing
happening
I wasn't even allowed to shave
my legs until I was past 16
but I wasn't the only one
as if that made it any better
I'm living my best life now
in some ways
I'm not young and beautiful
but I'm determined to
dance even if I don't
really know how
watch the sunset until
it's dark outside
be silly if I want to
I want to make up for
lost time
a lifetime of muted
I want to
go on adventures
be spontaneous
feel alive
feel whole
feel wanted
feel real love
age is just a number
that the mind holds
over the heart
tomorrow isn't promised
for any of us
so I will
make each day count
enjoy everything I can
while I can
see the beauty around me
find someone who's not
afraid of dancing in
the rain with me.
So here's my advice...
toss out all those birthday candles
and get out there and live
like there's no tomorrow.
