The fabric of love is made of paper
Crumble it and it is permanent
Cherish it and it is forever
Taking a needle to poke holes in it
Will render it’s incompleteness
Kiss it and the heat will grow
Show it and they will feel missed
And your love is all they will know
Harness other paper projects
Will make you abandon the first
Will deteriorate the love to feel like a reject
And your mistakes will be your curse
Little tears of unwanted origami
Folds in places it should not be
A permanent missed happy opportunity
Over the years of you and me
Missing you, when you stand in my face
Missing you, when you’re not at my place
Old memories I work hard to retrace
While for you, I am so easy to replace
Fabrications of lies always told
Recognizing that deep down I am
More of a fool than those who search for gold
But that was never part of my plan
Reaching and carrying the weight
Of tons of charred paper on my back
Leaves my knees and heart strained
I am warning you of my collapse
You shrug and complain if you have to try
You roll your eyes and I feel the goodbye coming
A major fraction of me slowly dies
As you expect me to wait and be a fill in
The paper crumbling sound rambles no more
The wastebasket is overflowing
To keep cleaning up is just another chore
So I pack my shoes & head for the door closing
