It was a day like any other
Working the floor, counting heads
Keeping track of the chickens in my care
Then they said there were more
Not chickens, children
I went to greet the other
When I returned I found no one
I looked up and down
Then ran into a dear friend
She took my hand and off we went
Trekking through snowy terrain,
About two feet of snow in a courtyard
Then we entered a building that lead down
Creeping low into the earth
I followed her, as we searched
We found a lake beneath the ground
This lake glowed from within
She told me this is where we go
It was unfamiliar to me
But dear friends don’t lead you astray
We swam, the water was gentle
When we emerged again there was a door
The door lead to a parking garage
Where we happened across a coworker
Her laughter contagious, we held our smiles
She told us where we must go next
We followed her, as we searched
We emerged from the underground
To dirt and sage brush
High desert lit by moon light,
Running over rocky terrain
Entering a new door positioned
in the wall a boulder
Down a single corridor, stood a man
Not a dreadful one, nor one we knew
Though he knew us,
or at least knew what we were looking for
He said we’d pass a court
Not the legal one, one for a tournament
This held no weight
Til we discovered what he’d been on about
We followed his word, as we searched
Passing the tournament, avoiding sparks
Eyes forward to keep from falling
Or thinking of falling,
We might as well have fallen
On the other side we entered a stair well
It spiraled upwards and downwards
We chose to descend
The lights dimmed with each step
Imperceptibly at first
Until we were lost in total blackness
I emerged from the dark in my bed
No longer accompanied by dear friends
My room was cast in bright silvery light
When I looked out my window
I saw her looking back
The silver face of the moon
and her secret smile.
