✨Lucky Charm✨

A fortunate claim.

My search for love begins with a lesson taught to me by the one that I couldn't have.

***

Buying your attention is not an option. Getting you to notice me has proven to be a complicated feat.

I know you, but your knowledge of me passes like wishes on an aging dandelion, whose seeds are propelled into the wind by faith-filled lungs.

Desire is a word that becomes my obsession, until the brutal realization that this fantasy would never materialize.

The one that I can't have is moving on to their next chapter... without me.

His happiness is sealed with a kiss at the altar with the one that he could have. The one that he chose.

I accept defeat, destroy the fantasy and dismantle the infatuated love that builds and builds as a side effect.

It was love at first sight, but that assumption was fallacious. Naive to the very phrase. I was in love with my thoughts about it.

Why, oh why can I allow myself to create such a world of hopeful illusions?

A secret that grew, but never blossomed. It drowned before ever making it to shore.

This is not who I aim to be!

Attraction cannot be forced, particularly when the nature of the attraction is one-sided and obviously tainted with opposing polarities.

The sadness eventually subsides...

Fate brings me a new strategy-

A rabbit's foot catches my eye as it dangles in the jewelry shop. Satisfying to the touch, its soft and cuddly fur draws me in for a purchase.

It begs me to put trust in the belief that its superstitious properties can accelerate destiny.

I easily find comfort in knowing it's there. Whispering to it, gesturing with it, giving it responsibility.

And then one day a new prospect presents itself...

I saw you leaning on a display case, with pen in hand. My attention to everything comes to a sudden halt.

It was as if we were the only two hearts beating in the room. In an instant, I felt a foreign familiarity in your presence. Do I know him?

On this day you adorned a stylish cardigan that accentuates your features and electrifies the space around you.

My palms begin to moisten with nervous energy.

I lost all memory to the purpose of visiting this trendy place. Meeting you was a newfound purpose.

I frantically reach in my pocket to make sure it was there. The rabbit's foot that I have come to depend on, sets in motion a sense of composure.

It guides my actions and suggests when a situation is yay or nay.

It convinces me to feel good...

Foreshadowing a next step, I place the charm back in my pocket. Leaving it partially exposed so it can share a moment of history as history unfolds.

The streak of luck continues as I learn that Mr. Right frequents here as the one in charge. Perhaps the proprietor.

Slowly, I decrease the space between us, pretending to show interest in articles of clothing along the way.

And then it happened...Our eyes met and locked on target, like the periscope of a wandering sub.

I stood motionless in awe. His fixed stare gave way to the personified animals in human nature.

The butterflies were making themselves known and the goosebumps quickly joined in.

How is this possible? No person has ever presented this impression without uttering a single word.

I felt a connection, like a twin flame. Only time can prove that the feeling was mutual.

Moving forth with salutation, he offers to assist me. My response trembles out my overwrought lips.

Not even recalling the words I chose, only mesmerized by a feeling I fail to understand.

With clear confidence he asked If we knew each other. Finally, confirmation that I was not alone here with this unknown buzz.

Relaxed more now, I say to him, "Isn't it oddly strange that you can read my mind?"

His smile again reassures me that I was not alone here.

I was sure, no, I was positive that something took hold of me. It quickly elevated and steered my emotions.

I was falling for a stranger who has barely said "Hi"

Meeting him was equivalent to continuing where you left off in the best romance novel ever written.

I departed empty handed of merchandise but full of joy in my head as this chance encounter was only the beginning.

Coffee, maybe lunch would ensue the following afternoon.

The relationship remains invigorating. Feelings are obvious. Compatibility was automatic. Passion is abundant.

Not everyone will experience what I did. Love at first sight cannot be acquired from the fruit of a tree.

In reality, it occurs when inspiration calls your name, and the right doors invite you to open them.

Seamus, the lucky charm was a much-needed ingredient. I commend it for enhancing the fading confidence that love will be found...

Love no longer remains hidden. It was abrupt and deserving.
