I once had wished upon a star
It soon would all work out
But since, I’ve learned the way you are
I'm not what you’re about
If I’m the tide, then you’re the wave
That crashed upon my beach
Yet you’re the boat I couldn’t raise
A life raft out of reach
I paid attention, watched you close
My ear against your ground
I've been your meds, just not your dose
The cure, I never found
I’ve watched you near and from afar
And studied you in-depth
I’ve strummed the strings of your guitar
Yes, clear across your breadth
We’ve now become an awkward phrase
Same letters, different font
Our ships went sailing separate ways
I’m clearly not your "want"
