Loved and Lost

A Journey Across The Five Senses

Love and loss, two sides of a cosmic coin,

Polar opposites, yet never far apart,

Striking lightning, across the senses,

In one lifetime, the two shall join.

*

With my eyes, I see perfect beauty,

A longing stare, with locked gaze,

Now all I see is dust, empty rooms,

Cloudy eyes, a soldier without duty.

*

With my ears, I hear her comforting voice,

Soothing tones, scintillating invitations,

My voice echoes, lonely in those halls,

Left alone with silence, never by choice.

*

With my nose, I smell herbs and flowers,

Wafting through the air, carried by her,

Today I smell only embers, dwindling ash,

Echoes of a life that was once ours.

*

With my mouth, I taste desire,

Lips against mine, soft and sweet,

My soul is parched, all of it lost,

Tongue scorched with relentless fire.

*

With my fingers, I touch her light,

Illuminating my veins, straight to the soul,

Left alone, never to touch her again,

Quietly waiting, alone in the dark.

*

My senses remember the time that was,

Boundless happiness, radiating perfection,

My soul is broken, empty and hollow,

Senses numb, adrift without cause.

*

I take comfort only in a future day,

This pain is temporary and fleeting,

My senses will depart, and I will wake,

In her arms, somewhere far away.
