But, for love be not contrite

Dare I, to do it all again

Be the Icarus in your sunlight

*

Your warm embrace I find delight

pain for joy is worth the strain

But, for your love be not contrite

*

Carried from the darkest night

in gentle arms, falling like rain

Be the Icarus in your sunlight

*

But, for your love be not contrite

a thousand times to try again

Be the Icarus in your sunlight

*

Fate smiled as you were brought to light

my soul to never be the same

But for love be not contrite

*

This damsel's bright and shining knight

arrayed by dawns most radiant beam

But for love be not contrite

Be the Icarus in your sunlight

  • "Be the Icarus, in your sunlight" That was so clever and my favourite line! Loved your Villanelle!

KSA - you vary the rhyme scheme a lot here. Is your punctuation doing what you want it to? (I do very much like the Icarus image - a very cool metaphor!) wardo
