Love's First Kiss

Forbidden love

The last thing I expected was to fall in love with you

Try as I did, I couldn't stop it.

Though it was not something friends do.

When I fell in love before, I fell hard and fast

I jumped in without much forethought

But my lover was not the role for which you were originally cast

It was not love at first sight

But nonetheless, romance grew

And was impossible to fight.

In a vulnerable time of big changes and tears

You held my hands, kissed my scars, then my lips

It was then, I knew who I'd been missing all those years

This gift from my long time friend

Trust and unfiltered love were shared that night

You helped my shattered heart to mend

This secret love between two women

Caused guilt and shame to weigh on my soul

But this was who I really was, even back then

What if I knew when we first met I was this way?

If I had known that I was bi before

Would we have come together anyway?

If we didn't have to hide and pretend

Would my heart have been swept up in that tender moment

When I fell in love with my best friend.
