Islam and Love

Love's Dilemma: A Reflection on Valentine's Day Restrictions in Islam

In the heart of February's embrace,

When love is spoken in every space,

The world dons pink, in a fervent parade,

Yet for many Muslims, love's journey must fade.

Valentine’s Day, a tale quite old,

With whispers of love, and stories untold,

But beneath the surface of hearts entwined,

Lies a conflict of faith, one that’s hard to unwind.

In Roman times, this tradition was born,

Spread wide through the ages, like whispers of dawn,

Yet in the folds of Quranic decree,

It is a call to love but with boundaries set free.

Islam, a Guide to emotions sincere,

Promotes love and kindness, year-round, my dear.

Yet, marks this day as outside sacred bounds,

For reflection on love, true spirit astounds.

The teachings remind us, love should not be confined,

To just one lone day, in rituals defined,

A bond with the Creator, above all else,

Transforms every moment into love’s true wealth.

So as flowers bloom and cards fill the air,

Many Muslims reflect, for a moment they stare.

“True love is showing compassion each day,

In whispers, in prayers, in the simplest ways.”

Shall we share sweet gifts, or let the day pass?

In a culture where freedom and faith coexist, alas!

Love is cherished in ways so profound,

Through family and friendships, their roots are unbound.

Yet whispers of dissent echo in the night,

Critics dismiss love, blind to its light,

“For love in Islam is holy and pure,

Each heartbeat a reminder, faith must endure.”

Not just on the fourteenth, but from sunrise to set,

Emotions should flourish, and no limits should fret.

A gentle embrace, a kind word spoken,

The bonds between souls, are never to be broken.

In hearts that crave love’s genuine thunder,

The clash of traditions pulls them asunder,

Yet faith calls for love, in both shadow and light,

To express it through actions, and share in the plight.

So here stands the paradox, vast as the sea,

How to honor love’s glory, while being truly free?

In every small gesture, in silence divine,

We find sacred love, in moments that shine.

For, dear hearts, if Valentine's fades into dusk,

Remember this: it’s love that we trust.

In Islam, it's clear, that love's spirit transcends,

Beyond just one day, to the journey that sends.

Express love through kindness, through deeds that uplift,

In giving and sharing, we discover true gifts.

So let not society dictate how you feel,

But honor your spirit, let your love be real.

Embrace it in whispers, in laughter, in tears,

In the warmth of companionship, calming all fears.

As the world spins on, and traditions do sway,

Let love flourish freely, in its righteous way.

Beautiful! Explaining the Islamic beliefs, close to the Christians - love every day, in every way. But the commercialization of all for retail sales sets in and overshadows true meanings. Lovely poem!

I really like how this poem highlights the difference between commercial love celebrations and the deeper, everyday love that’s central to faith. The message about showing love through actions and kindness, rather than just one special day, is really powerful and relatable. It’s a beautiful reminder to express love all year round!
