Love Looks Like
a mahogany table, crumb-sprinkled
from last night’s dinner, circled by faces dear
my doubt plagued darkness tried to hide:
blue-eyed freckles, dimpled slant grin,
blonde curls, braided brunette, the one,
boys who laugh because it’s his brother,
eldest hovering, moving, webbing us
conversation to conversation, wine sip smiling
at middlest as youngest explodes
in Vesuvius laughter, drowning, pulling
all into her mirth like spilled water
on a tabletop, translucent truth seeping,
splashing every place without invite,
manifesting love as it leaks
as we all do - I soak
it all in and am a part,
no longer apart.
I am - we are.
