Love is an Empty Sink

Is there even such a thing?

Stacked high above the faucet now

the dishes, cups, and plates somehow

Are teetering again about to fall.

My tired eyes start wandering

to the tv, the couch, and other things

eager to delay this dirty chore.

When to my fear

My sweetheart, dear,

gazes upon my procrastinating presence.

"Oh no!" she says, her mouth a frown

"don't even think about sitting down"

She shoos me back to the sink instead.

How I wish I could just end the day

Without fighting this dish array

but this seems to be the destiny I've picked.

Then sitting on the kitchen table

I spied a newspaper ad: some kind of fable?

That read: "half-off the newest dishwasher TODAY!"

Flying like an angry kitchen elf

I grabbed my coat and keys from the shelf

And motored to the store as fast I could.

There it was, glowing white

The answer to my endless plight

The dishes would soon be done without my scrubbing brush!

Now the world is ours, my dear

The dishes happily sitting there

In the dishwasher washing by themselves.

To the couch we go, a smiling team

Proud of all we've conquered, done and seen

"But first, can you take the garbage out?"
