Being in love protects me from
life
just my own, not in general
some of the scarier things
that i shouldn’t be facing
that most kids shouldn’t have faced
it’s my escape, a fantasy, call it what you want
it saved me, the love within my heart
has brought me here, through all the fear
brought me breathless
loving, free and relentlessly
taking each step and leaving the mess sit
right behind me,
let it sit right behind me
taking each step knowing it’ll sit there in silence
because i look right ahead
i’m hoping i’m not them
cus they’d leave you behind
they’d cheat and they’d lie
they’ll leave you feeling blind
to your own senses.
“never mind your gut, it’s senseless.
get some love for the moment, spare it when it’s holding
you back, cus you look right ahead
put that mess right back to bed”

WARNING. I will be tapping into one of your favorite creative tensions: The absurdity of humans worshipping their glowing rectangles as if they were tiny oracles. There’s something deliciously poetic about that contradiction, and it lends itself beautifully to an instructive proviso.
