We live in a different world these days
A world where you’re more likely to meet,
Online, a dating site, even social media or
Chat rooms, rather than a meet and greet.
****
So hang awhile and let me tell you a story
It’s not what you think, love at first sight,
It all occurred online, a creative platform
Making it a modern day, love at first write.
****
I uploaded and published a poem one day
Where I later found this perfect comment,
Beautifully written, unique and encouraging
I read between the lines what was meant.
****
I’d respond, with kindness and gratitude
Maybe slip in a double edged innuendo,
My next poem was ready to be published
The next comment I’ve kept as a memento.
****
Light hearted banter, both back and forth
Until one comment slammed into my heart,
There it lodged hard, as content as can be
Causing my heart to swell and love to start.
****
Then there was silence, I became concerned
Convinced I’d gone and said something wrong,
I checked and checked but not a word to see
I just wanted to see that one name, I longed.
****
I wrote a poem, with a simple secret message
And saw a beautiful response the very next day,
I took my courage and asked to speak off site
Hoping and praying I wasn’t chasing them away.
****
From there we went from strength to strength
So I will say it again, it was no love at first sight,
It all happened in this, the modern day world
It was through words, becoming love at first write.

About the Creator
Colleen Millsteed
My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
