Love at First Sight

A Vocal Challenge

By Olivia DodgePublished 4 years ago 1 min read

Love at first sight — VOCAL challenge

My eyes often deceive me

Double-takes became second nature

By the time I grew

Accustomed to the monotonous

Letdown

It’s been four years but

I remember it was 12:48pm

I remember you were wearing

Green and the way

Your eyes found comfort

In mine

I remember thinking

You were [not at all] what

I expected

The warmth within me spread

Like early morning snow

Painting landscapes

Upon asphalt

My eyes often deceive me

But I could not bear to take

Them away from yours

Maybe I was naïve

And maybe you knew the blue

In your eyes matched

My childhood bedroom walls

Recalling the moment

Of silence

Between us the second I walked

Through the door

Slight smiles

Eyebrows raised

This could be love

I thought

[Wrongly]

Love enough to trust

My eyes the first time

Accustomed to letdown after

Letdown

For once I let myself

Keep my stare ahead

I wonder if you still think about

The way we clicked that

First day

I wonder if you smile

When you hear my name

As if it is mine alone

[Before you took it from me]

I’m learning to take

It back

Each day I think

Of your comfort less

And less

My eyes often deceive me

But I have learned

To trust the deception

Over time
