Driving his tractor by

to see the pretty city girl

She was just standing by

Seeing the great outdoors

He knew it when he saw her

And wanted to meet her more

So, he came back around

To see her startled by some frolicking cows

She was acting scared

He stepped in and saved the day

She finally noticed him I say

They started to date

And they fell in love

But the war stepped in

And marriage had to be put on hold

To the date, he could get off

Finally, they let him off

And he wore his officer’s uniform

They loved each other from the start

And they had some time

But the war still waged

He was a naval pilot

Who rescued down pilots

As wars go, he wrote her often

Still loved her and waited to come home

Finally, when treaties are signed

And the men and women came home

They were reunited on the farm

He worked his best

But to make ends meet

They moved to a city

The family was growing

Along with their love

With a new job

And more were born

Till the end with ten

Each grew and became older

But sent some summers away

Their life was busy

But loved each other anyway

Through sacrifices and giving up

They raised their children up

Eventually, the kids started families of their own

Each new baby was welcome

To see the love, grow more in the end

Despite all those years

They stuck together through thick and thin

As the families grew

And each child left

To forge their paths

They were alone at last

Slowly he was retired

and readjusted to life

they were married for over fifty years

and stayed in love

his memory started to fade

but he never forgot her

as he became worse

she could not take care of him

and had to go to a home

being away from her

his heart gave out

on his dying breath

her name was said

and his love legacy lives in the end

ten children with children of their own

twenty-eight grandchildren came out of that

and an ever-growing number of greats in fact

both are now gone

but the legacy lives on

of family and love

and sticking together for life

love at first sight

and always there

love poems
