My Tía used to tell me I had her whole heart. But then I overheard her say the same thing to my baby cousin and I whined to her “but I thought I had your whole heart!” She kissed me and pretended to eat my squishy cheek when she said “It’s still true! I grow a new one for each one of you.”

She was never shy to love deeply and found peace in showing us so.

When she died and they cut her open, a lifetime of crystalline hearts clattered and chimed out, a symphony of her loud love.
