The Legacy of War

Once upon a time, there was a land far away

A land as black as night, yet as bright as day

A land lost between time-neither here, nor there

A land forgotten and left to despair

Where once peace was spoken, yet war raged on

Where the cry was for freedom, but freedom was gone

Where they fought for truth with deceit and lies

Where they talked about hope while their children cried

Where the kings and queens in their castles on high

Turned their heads as their poor slowly died

Then one by one, their greed and lust

Began to breed jealousy, envy, and mistrust

They tried to hide-they lived in fear

For when they looked about, they knew the end was near

And when they opened their eyes, it was much too late

For the time had come, to realize their fate

And when Destiny called, they began to cry

For like their brothers they’d killed, it was their turn to die
