Longing
As I moved around the room
my eyes fell upon you.
A puzzling expression lay across your face.
Your body language
made we want to ask
if you were alone, at this table for two, on purpose
in this strange place.
Are you waiting upon another's arrival?
Did they depart too soon?
Are you pondering your grocery list?
Are you longing to be at the table
across from you?
Has your heart just been broken?
Have you never loved at all?
Oh, how I wish you were more
than just a painting on the wall.
*Thank you for reading my poem. The artist's painting I am referring to is Gagik Tonian born in Yerevan, Armenia. His personal exhibition "Rapid" was in a gallery in Prague. This is where the lady on the wall was found. If you liked this poem please click the heart. If you would like to leave a tip and support artists, it's appreciated.
