Long Lost Friend

Poetic Fantasy

By Earl W. PearlPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read

I found a note, a chilly tale

Inside my childhood drum

It said, “I HOPE THIS FINDS YOU WELL”

I wondered who it’s from

Detecting a familiar tone

I read with interest peaked

This letter means his secret’s blown

And this is what it leaked

"DEPRESSION TAKES YOUR JOY AWAY

LIKE SALT DISSOLVES A SLUG

IF CRISIS MAKES YOU CRAVE TODAY

THIS POEM CAN BE YOUR DRUG

I’M WRITING THIS TO TAKE COMMAND

JUST DOING WHAT I MUST

IN HOPES TO GAIN THE UPPER HAND

A NOTE TO GAIN YOUR TRUST

I KNOW YOUR SORROW, KNOW YOUR FEARS

THE DARK WITHIN WON’T LAST

YOUR FUTURE'S NOT AS IT APPEARS

I KNEW THIS IN YOUR PAST

I HID THIS NOTE BEHIND A SHELF

BUT THEN REMEMBERED YOU

I KNOW YOU BETTER THAN YOURSELF

WHAT YOU YOURSELF WOULD DO

IF EVER SADNESS SUCKS YOU IN

YOU’RE TAKING THINGS APART

I’M CERTAIN NOW YOU’RE GONNA WIN

YOUR DRUM IS JUST THE START”

This letter hidden long ago

Astonished eyes now see

Prophetic note, I reckon so

The letter’s signed by me

fact or fiction
