I have but one tattoo.
Two little words plague my skin in permanent ink.
Located on the inside of my forearm, the words “Little One” are found.
I always said if I got a tattoo, it would have to be something of immense meaning.
Not a butterfly on my shoulder
Or a star on my ankle.
But something meaningful.
A tattoo is a lifelong commitment.
You cannot change it like you change your wardrobe. Or at least not with ease.
So why “Little One?”
I’ll tell you.
Little One is and will forever be in reference to my little sister.
There’s nothing like a sister’s bond.
And if you’re the older sister- forget about it.
As the older sister:
You never stop protecting
You never stop advising
You never stop risking.
I will always protect her heart, her body and her life as much as I am able.
I will always advise her on life, love and friendships.
I will always risk my time, my heart and my life if it means saving her any heartbreak.
Growing up, we bickered like cats and dogs.
I could’ve killed her a million times over.
But over the years we’ve gotten closer.
Then and now, I would die for her-
A million times over.
She is always there for me like I am for her.
When I had my heart broken, she was my first call.
When she had her heart broken, she treasured my advice most.
When our parents divorced, we had eachother.
And we’ve had eachother… ever since.
So when the day came that I decided to forever stain my skin,
I thought of what that stain would be.
I didn’t have to think too hard before the words “Little One” flashed in my mind.
My sister is the most important person in my life.
I don’t know how long she will be with me,
But at least now she will always be with me.
I will carry her wherever I go.
