Little Maude
Little Maude
Was very bored
All the long day
She wanted to play
But didn’t have one friend
On who she could depend
Maude didn’t go to school
(That would be too cruel)
Maude stayed home
Often alone
And sat waiting for fun
That often didn’t come
Children steered clear
And never came near
So day after day
Maude would stay
Alone and still
Waiting until
Some brave child
Would act a little wild
And venture into the night
To catch a sight
Without making a peep
Into the dark so deep
And there they would see
Lonely little Maudie
With no one to care
For lonely little her
Getting ever so near
They would sneer
Make a mean joke
Give her a sharp poke
Throw big stones
Try to break her bones
Then with her might
Maude would bite
That rotten child in two
(Some children didn’t have a clue)
Maude would eat
That delicious meat
And crunch
And munch
And chew
This new
Little child
Who ventured in the wild
And with a grin
She would slip in
Her little swamp
Tired from her chomp
With a swish of her tail
Cutting a trail
Through the water
Happy with her slaughter
Full and fed
That child dead.
With big claws
Instead of paws
With sharp teeth
Hidden beneath
A scaly smile
It’s been obvious for a while
Little Maude
Is a great big CROCODILE!

Great poem. I live in SW Florida and one sunny afternoon, an alligator jumped on the dock of my neighbor and grabbed her little dog. Alligator sunk back in the canal with the dog in its mouth. The next day, the alligator was back, swam to where it hit the little body, then jumped back on my friend's dock and ate its lunch. so sad.
This is a very interesting poem. it is also very well-written.
