imagine you are a fish in a pond,
swimming day in and day out,
comforted by your aquatic home.
until one day when you're cornered and trapped.
something is not right but you're confused.
you take the bait,
only to be taken from your sanctuary of comfort,
gasping for breath,
beaten against a rock and stunned.
to make matters worse, you are suffocating.
the feeling is unfamiliar
until you are gutted, left empty, and dead.
that's what he did to me as a child.
trapped.
suffocated.
gutted
and left empty.
except instead of being dead,
i only feel that way on the inside.
anytime a boy wants affection from me
i think of the bait.
i think of the suffocation.
it leaves me motionless.
a little fish in a big pond.
