I want to be just like my dog.
Her body knows just what to do
She runs and plays, then finds the shade
And rests there for an hour or two
*
Her world is not so complicated
As we humans make life be
When it’s too much, she’s had enough
And hides under her favorite tree
*
Her eyes close when she smells the breeze:
The many colors on the wind
To live, she doesn’t have to think.
She drops in deep, and takes it in
*
And when terror grips her frame
Her little body winds up tight–
Lets it out, then shakes it off
No need for drama, fight or flight
*
She reaches out her paw to me
As if to say, this is the way.
Hand on my hand, she calms me down
And shows me how to seize the day

Sometimes I wonder how good my cats have it. Nevertheless, great job!
Nothing shows more affection or devotion than a dog treated well. Great job. Beautiful, lyrical, & true to its subject.
Lovely poem. "Her eyes close when she smells the breeze: / The many colors on the wind / To live, she doesn’t have to think." Alas, dogs have dichromatic vision - thus the color gamut for them is more limited than for us humans. Sorry for the nerdy stuff, I just learned it myself:D
I love this. Makes me miss my dog 😢 We’re going to adopt a new puppy soon though💖
